ADVANCED DRONE OPERATIONS
Night operations, BVLOS waivers, LAANC authorization, complex airspace, and multi-drone coordination. For pilots who want to do more.
- 6 advanced modules
- FAA waiver templates included
- Night ops & BVLOS covered
- LAANC & complex airspace
Prerequisite Required
An active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate is required for this course. The material builds on foundational regulatory knowledge. If you need your Part 107 first, start with our FAA Part 107 Certification Class.
Course Overview
Standard Part 107 certification authorizes a lot — but not everything. The most lucrative commercial drone work often requires additional FAA permissions: infrastructure inspection after dark, linear surveys beyond visual line of sight, operations near busy airports, or coordinating multiple aircraft on complex missions. This course gives you the knowledge and paperwork to pursue those jobs legally.
Advanced Drone Operations covers the operational skills that separate weekend fliers from working professionals. Night operations require different equipment, pre-flight procedures, and crew protocols. Complex airspace demands you understand ATC communication before you're standing in a Class D surface area with a client waiting. BVLOS waivers require a documented safety case the FAA will approve. We cover all of it, with templates and frameworks you can actually use.
Course Modules
Six advanced modules covering the operational capabilities most in demand for commercial drone work.
Module 01
Night Operations & Lighting Requirements
Night operations require specific anti-collision lighting, adjusted pre-flight procedures, and crew briefing protocols. Covers Part 107.29, light specifications, visibility assessments, and orientation loss mitigation.
- Part 107.29 night operation regulations
- Anti-collision light specifications and mounting
- Pre-flight site assessment for night ops
- Night flight logging and documentation
Module 02
BVLOS Operations & Waivers
Beyond Visual Line of Sight represents the frontier of commercial drone work. Covers the complete FAA waiver process, safety case documentation, common rejection reasons, and waiver templates with demonstrated results.
- BVLOS definition and operational scenarios
- FAA Part 107.31 waiver process overview
- Safety case development
- Waiver application templates and submission guide
Module 03
Complex Airspace (Class B, C & D)
Most real estate, construction, and infrastructure work happens within controlled airspace. Covers airspace structure, ATC communication protocols, sectional chart reading, and coordination with approach control and tower facilities.
- Class B/C/D structure and dimensions
- ATC communication protocols for drone operators
- Sectional chart reading — floors and ceilings
- Operating within airport traffic areas safely
Module 04
LAANC Authorization
LAANC enables near-instant airspace authorization near airports. Covers the system's limitations, UAS Facility Maps, above-ceiling authorization requests, third-party apps, and what to do when LAANC is unavailable.
- LAANC system overview and app setup
- Understanding UAS Facility Maps (UASFMs)
- Requesting above-ceiling authorizations
- LAANC limitations and alternatives
Module 05
Emergency Procedures & Risk Management
Advanced operations carry higher risk profiles. Covers risk assessment matrices, operations manual development, BVLOS contingency procedures, night-ops disorientation recovery, and incident documentation for advanced operations.
- Risk assessment matrix for complex operations
- Building an FAA-compliant operations manual
- BVLOS contingency procedures
- Urban environment emergency procedures
Module 06
Multi-Drone Operations
Flying multiple drones introduces coordination challenges most solo operators have never encountered. Covers crew roles, frequency management, airspace deconfliction, and mission planning for large-scale inspections and industrial mapping.
- Part 107 framework for multi-drone operations
- Crew roles — remote pilot in command, visual observer
- Radio frequency management
- Mission planning for multi-drone deployments
